That’s kind of you to say you would make the drive. I have offered tours in the past and may again in the future. Sign up for my newsletter I announce them there first.

I am from San Diego but love your gardens and use so much of your expertise in my gardening. I am wondering if you ever have an open house of your garden? I would drive over for one and would really like to see in person your beautiful place. Thanks!

Hi Aiden; generally, I recommend at least 12″ of soil. So if your beds are 12″ deep, I would fill them up with soil. If you had deeper beds, you could layer with cardboard and use mulch, straw, or alfalfa (which will need to break down before it is useful) If you do use straw/alfalfa, you may get some sprouts – be prepared to pull those out.

They are two 4X8 and two 3X6 each 12” deep. Lots of soil to make using the Square Foot Gardening method which I used successfully many years ago. I thought I might add several inches of straw or alfalfa from the feed store in the bottom of the beds before I add soil, partially to save a bit of money and partially to add nitrogen. Would you recommend or am I making a mistake with this idea?

Hi. I have classes scheduled for January 26th for “Spring Gardening in Arizona” and March 30 for “Summer Gardening in Arizona” at the Mesa Public Library. I also teach a monthly live online gardening class through Patreon called Growing in the Garden Academy. You can attend the class live or watch it later, and as a member, you have access to all of the past hour-long classes (there are 14 so far). Learn more about GITG Academy here: https://www.patreon.com/growinginthegarden

I live in the west valley and would love to attend another class if one is scheduled wherever it might be.
Thanks, Lorie Bowlin Friedmann

@Angela Judd, With the rain storm here in Mesa I couldn’t find out if you were proceeding with your class. It really rain, stormed hard here. Water really rose. Do you consult? I really need a pair of expert eyes to look at what I want to do and advise. I live in Sunland Village at Broadway and Greenfield. I will pay?! Thank you. Pamela Fair
