It’s an east-side wall that faces west. I agree that the plumbago and duranta erecta may not be good choices for that area.

It really helps me think through so many facets of my backyard garden. I have a question about this section:

“In-Ground Planting in Sunny Zones
Along the western edge of the yard, full sun makes it perfect for in-ground planting. This area includes:
Grapevines
Ultra-dwarf fruit trees: Anna apples, guavas, Barbados cherry, fig, plum, and goji berries
Seasonal plantings of annual flowers like salvia and foxglove
Full sun vines like Mexican Orchid Vine and Pink Trumpet Vine”

Can you clarify if this area is on the west side, facing east, with a block wall behind it? Or is it an east-side wall that faces west?

I’m trying to determine if the plants you listed might work in my space. I have an east-side wall that faces west, and it’s such a tricky spot. It’s quite deeply shaded through winter, but in summer is a blazing wall of death! I have Barbados cherry, white bougainvillea, and Vitex trifolia planted there. I’m wondering what other shrubs, vines or groundcovers I can try, as a sort of understory planting, that would have similar water needs and accept the lighting conditions. Too hot for cape/blue plumbago or duranta erecta probably?

Thank you kindly for your time and consideration.
